Vic Mensa airs new single ‘U Mad’, featuring Kanye West

Producer Stefan Ponce gives more details on Kanye’s new album.

Vic Mensa has shared his new single ‘U Mad’, featuring a guest verse from Kanye West.

‘U Mad’ follows Vic Mensa and Kanye West’s collaboration on ‘Wolves’, the opening track to Kanye West’s upcoming album ‘So Help Me God’.

All bravado beats and horn-heavy repetition, producer Stefan Ponce told The FADER that the track began during the ‘So Help Me God’ sessions, with Mensa, Mike Dean, and Smoko Ono forming a new track from what remains of Kanye West’s ‘You Know Me Too Well’.

Ponce said: “The original song that ‘U Mad’ was on was a song called ‘You Know Me Too Well,’ and it turned into a crazy, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde type thing. ‘U Mad’ got so hot we were like let’s just make it the song itself.” “It’s [‘So Help Me God’] definitely more poppy. This one shit, man, I did drums to, is exactly like ‘Graduation’. I played it for Tom [Krell] from How To Dress Well in the studio the other day, and he’s like ‘Man, this sounds exactly like Graduation.’ I’m like ‘Man, that’s what I wanted.”
