Wild Beasts take part in psychological experiment for ‘Palace’ video
Band subject themselves to mysterious encounters in this new clip.
Wild Beasts have made themselves the subjects of a random psychological experiment in the new video for ‘Palace’.
Alex Turvey directs the video, which sees Hayden Thorpe and co. placed individually in a room, before being prompted with strange images. There’s writhing wrestlers, footage of the band’s early rehearsals screened on old TV sets, a body wrapped in cling film on a sofa and a deadly-looking snake.
Each time one of these random objects is presented, the camera pans to measure the reactions of every band member - notice Tom Fleming looking particularly distressed when a snake appears, poor fella.
“The idea of the video was to match the feel of a cheap game show with the content of a rather cruel psychological experiment,” says Fleming. “We wanted to make something that felt like an event and a sort of project, rather than what passes for a trad music video.”
