Wild Beasts talk ‘Soft Future’ show, with Evian Christ and East India Youth
Hayden Thorpe is looking ahead to the band’s big 2014 send-off at Canal Mills, Leeds.
Tomorrow night, Wild Beasts host their own self-curated ‘Soft Future’ night at Leeds’ Canal Mills. Featuring East India Youth, Fryars, Nathan Fake and Evian Christ, it’s a bill that’s been handpicked in helping to send off the band’s huge year.
Following ‘Present Tense’, the band played The O2 with The National, as well as gracing Hyde Park for Arcade Fire’s headline show. ‘Soft Future’ is by no means Wild Beasts’ final gig on the back of their latest LP, though. “We don’t want to cut off ties and disappear into the wilderness yet,” says Hayden Thorpe, speaking to DIY. “We still feel an attachment to the record.”
Discussing the forthcoming show, Thorpe says that “it was really important to do more than just a gig. You know, we didn’t neglect but we definitely left behind a group of people and a scene that we were proud to be a part of. It’s good to acknowledge that and to go back [to Leeds].”
Speaking about the other acts on the bill, Hayden gushes praise on William Doyle’s East India Youth. “Every time I get to see him play, it’s a spiritual experience. I think everything he does is with so much heart, you can’t help but be given over to it.” Elsewhere, there’s Evian Christ, described by the frontman is making “future music… To be under Kanye’s wing is like being touched by God. It’s almost sainthood!”
“I’m genuinely looking forward to seeing what happens,” says Hayden. “We’re fortunate enough to be close enough to Christmas and close enough to our end of year campaign, that we can frankly do our job and get bladdered, having a fantastic night watching these people play.”
Soft Future takes place at Leeds’ Canal Mills, 11th December 2015. Tickets are on sale here.
