With the charts being dominated by everything but British guitar bands, Spector may have been luckier if they’d released ‘Chevy Thunder’ in 2005 when it would have no doubt conquered all. But time travel has still not been invented - so maybe Spector could be one of the bands that bring indie rock back to life.
Sure, they’re not reinventing it. There’s the glamour of The Killers, the dynamic of the early Arctic Monkeys and catchiness of any 2005 indie Top 10 hit. But why change something that worked before, and very well, too?
Singer Fred MacPherson (better known as Blood-Royale from MTV days) actually has a decent, even recognisable singing voice, they’ve found their sound and, most importantly, are a pretty good live band too. Hopefully there’s a lot more to come from Spector.
