First things first – I love psychadelia. Bear that in mind while reading this review, because it sure ain’t everyone’s thing. It’s also one of numerous reasons I love Tame Impala; their dynamic and sonic sound, borrowing from the wonderful 60’s psychadelia scene, is brilliant and excellently executed, resulting in music that sounds like it could have been dug from the crates of a dusty old record shop.
That doesn’t change with ‘Lucidity’. In fact, the only criticism of Tame Impala here is that their songs sometimes get a bit repetitive, but hey, so do a lot of bands. ‘Lucidity’ in all of its glory sounds like something from the guts of The Beatles inspiration remixed by Beyond The Wizards Sleeve, or a Norman Petty song dredged through an acid trip and back again. This is a soundtrack to getting wasted, to misspent youths, to what can only be labelled as good times.
It’s the same of the rest of Tame Impala’s stuff. It won’t change your life, but it’ll make it more fun.
