TV On The Radio - Dancing Choose

Fusing vintage synthesizer sounds with dynamic saxophone work and rhythmic hand-claps.

Bursting forth like an agitated whirlwind, ‘Dancing Choose’ doesn’t give the listener (or the band members) any time to rest, instead unleashing Tunde’s frenetic lyrics upon a driving beat that sounds like the dawning of a new day. With rapid fire vocals and an urgency reminiscent of R.E.M.’s ‘It’s The End Of The World As We Know It,’ TVotR again remain a step ahead of the game, by fusing vintage synthesizer sounds with dynamic saxophone work and rhythmic hand-claps that propel the song forward at a breakneck pace. The song is over in a flash, and if you concentrate on the lyrics too closely, you might miss the layered, textured arrangements; and if you focus on the music, you might miss Tunde’s brazen criticism of the self-serving media. It’s a lot to take in under three minutes.

The accolades and lofty spots on the top of many year-end lists have been pouring in for ‘Dear Science’, and they are all well deserved, for TVotR are a band that are continually taking chances musically, never allowing themselves to get locked in to any specific sound or style. They continually sound like the future, and force the rest of the music industry to play catch up to a bunch of musicians who aren’t interested in waiting around, and this song is a perfect example of that restlessness and innovation. ‘Dancing Choose’ is a brilliant sprint to a finish line completely of the bands creation, and TV On The Radio aren’t showing signs of letting up anytime soon.
