Wild Beasts - Brave Bulging Bouyant Clairvoyants
Touches of all kinds of influences, but the vast majority are satisfyingly hard to pin down.

Indier than thou alert: it’s almost two years since ‘Brave Bulging Buoyant Clairvoyants’ (crikey! - Ed) got it’s first release via Bad Sneakers. No need to hide behind the sofa in fear of a really rather predictble ‘not another re-release’ rant; this scribe has to admit that ‘nice artwork’ was about as far as any interaction with Wild Beasts’ debut record went. That’s the problem.
Turns out it’s two years wasted. Twenty four months without the chance to appreciate a track that manages to be a single all over without the need to stick to any kind of bland, over photocopied template. There’s touches of all kinds of influences, but the vast majority are satisfyingly hard to pin down; from the not-actually-falsetto vocals to the beat that constantly sits somewhere in between a gallop and a canter.
Taken out of context it’s a tour de force, but when put against a backdrop of impending doom at the hands of yet another Killers album it’s abso-bloody-lutely vital. On top of that, the video’s an absolute corker too; one more reason that re-releases aren’t always a bad thing.
