Hey, hey!
Ben Gibbard of Death Cab For Cutie covers Alvvays’ ‘Archie, Marry Me’ live
The solo performance took place at a Seattle fundraising event on Saturday.
Capping off a whirlwind year for Alvvays, their breakout hit ‘Archie, Marry Me’ was covered this weekend by none other than indie royalty Ben Gibbard, frontman of Death Cab For Cutie.
The cover formed part of Gibbard’s solo set at Seattle’s Nepture Theatre - a fundraising event from which 100% of ticket sales went towards crowd-funding programme Power2Give / Puget Sound, which “awards regional arts projects with funds that fuel Seattle’s artistic community”.
His performance of the Alvvays track only exists online in 15-second Instagram video form, but that can be viewed below. A full recording of Death Cab classic ‘I Will Follow You Into The Dark’ has since surfaced online, so it’s surely only a matter of time before ‘Archie, Marry Me’ follows suit.
Gibbard is currently gearing up for the release of Death Cab For Cutie’s seventh studio album – the first to be produced by an outside producer (Rich Costey) rather than the band’s guitarist Chris Walla, and the last to feature Walla himself, who announced his departure following the album’s completion.
