Petite Noir has announced his debut album ‘La Vie Est Belle / Life Is Beautiful,’ due out on 11th September, via Domino. He’s also shared the first preview of things to come, ‘Down.’ Yannick Ilunga - who is half-Angolan, half-Congolese - filmed the music video on the streets of Lubumbashi, while visiting Democratic Republic of Congo.
Petite Noir recorded his album at London’s Box Ten Studios with Domino label-mate Oli Bayston (Boxed In) and Leon Brichard (Ibibio). ‘La Vie Est Belle / Life Is Beautiful,’ takes its name from a 1987 Congolese film, which is in part about the country’s vibrant music scene. In Petite Noir’s own words on the press release, the album’s sound is “noirwave,” which represents a ‘new African aesthetic’. ‘I think for me, it’s just the story their music tells and the sense of freedom,” Ilunga says, “It’s about seeing the positive in dark times’.
The tracklisting is as follows:
01 Intro Noirwave
04 Seventeen (Stay)
05 Just Breathe
06 La Vie Est Belle / Life Is Beautiful
