(pictured), Banks and Sampha head up the BBC Sound of 2014 longlist of 15 artists.

The annual poll - compiled by tastemakers including BBC DJs, journalists and bloggers - picks out stars for the future, with last year’s winner Haim going on to top the charts with debut album ‘Days Are Gone’.

2014’s whittling down of promising new acts includes the brilliant Chlöe Howl, LA newcomers BANKS and Drake-collaborator Sampha. FKA Twigs, Chicago’s Chance the Rapper and the enigmatic Jungle also feature.

Royal Blood - whose decibel-raising debut single only came out last month - standout, while Disclosure guest-vocalist Sam Smith also makes the list. Australia via Sweden sisters Say Lou Lou are another interesting addition, while LA’s Kelala joins George Ezra, Luke Sital-Singh, Nick Mulvey and Ella Eyre among the solo names making an appearance.

Is this spot on? How much does it mean? Who’s missing? The full list is below and DIY’s Class Of 2014 issue is out later this week, containing over 40 new bands. A Top 5 BBC Sound of 2014 will be announced from Monday 6th January.
