Damon Albarn

has confirmed the details of what’s being billed as his first solo album, ‘Everyday Robots’. The prolific on-and-off Blur frontman recorded the record alongside XL Recordings boss Richard Russell, and it’s due out on 28th April through Warner Bros.

Last night new material from the album was debuted at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Damon played a set that included the title track (due out as a separate 7’ single on 3rd March) and another track, ‘You and Me’ (via Variety). That’s footage of him playing Gorillaz’s ‘On Melancholy Hill’, below.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Damon stated: ‘Making a solo record can be such a disaster, so I thought if we’re going to make a record with my name on it, I should get someone to really produce it; take that responsibility away from myself,’ speaking about Richard Russell’s involvement.

A deluxe edition of ‘Everyday Robots’ is set to arrive alongside a DVD of Damon performing several album tracks at Fox Studios in Los Angeles.

Update: Damon’s since confirmed the release date as well as posting a new trailer, below. He’s added that Bat For Lashes and Brian Eno are set to feature on the record, which is described as ‘his most soul-searching and autobiographical yet.’

‘Everyday Robots’ is set to be unveiled tomorrow, 21st January.
