Ahead of the release of his new album ‘Power’, Ben Garrett aka Fryars has unveiled ‘The Boy in the Hood’, a preceding mixtape that features Lily Allen on a new track, ‘King Many Layers’.

The mixtape brings together Garrett’s phone memos, a new version of ‘On Your Own’ (the original features on ‘Power), and further examples of the Londoner’s mad genius.

‘Power’ is the product of three years’ of legal wrangling, label disputes and taster singles. Its 17th November release comes five years after Garratt’s 2009 debut ‘Dark Young Hearts’.

This mixtape is acting as a “B-Movie” to the album. “It’s not a bunch of offcuts but a different beast. This record exists in the night time. It’s a night out. From being home alone to upping sticks and going out on the town. Power exists in the daytime, for the most part,” he says [via Pitchfork].
