Kevin Shields says the new My Bloody Valentine album will be “more all over the place”

In a new interview, he’s revealed some details about the follow-up to ‘m b v’.

A couple of weeks ago, Kevin Shields confirmed that there was a new My Bloody Valentine album in the works, with the shoegaze icons set to release the record sometime in 2018.

Now, he’s revealed some more details about what the follow-up to ‘m b v’ will be like. Expecting for the record to be out next summer, he talked to Rolling Stone about what he thought the new LP would be like. “In some respects, some of it is a bit straightforward”, he said. “The MBV album that we did in 2013 feels more meandery and not as concise. This one is like if somebody took that and dropped some acid on it or created a dimensional clash or something. It’s more all over the place”.

He continued: “It could turn out to be only five tracks. I hope not, but I don’t want it to be a double album and I don’t want it to be really long”.

Not only that, but he’s hoping that the band will get back on the road sometime next year too: “It’s like with the MBV album; it would have taken another year if we hadn’t booked the tour. It’s no harm. It just means I go through a few months of hell. You work twice as hard, and that’s OK”.

Don’t expect a surprise release this time around either. Kevin’s wanting a bit more organisation around the record’s eventual release: “I want it to be more organized. I felt like we needed a manager, because we just react to everything. It worked well enough in the past, but I have to be honest. I don’t do enough really to feel comfortable with the situation and I have been like that for a long time”.
