Lauren Mayberry confirms debut solo album ‘Vicious Creature’

One year on from covering DIY, the CHVRCHES frontwoman is readying her first solo offering.

Lauren Mayberry confirms debut solo album 'Vicious Creature' and shares new single 'Something In The Air'

Lauren Mayberry - the CHVRCHES frontwoman turned star in her own right - has confirmed that her debut solo album will be entitled ‘Vicious Creature’, and will be released later this year via EMI Records (UK) / Island Records (US).

It’s been exactly a year since we welcomed Lauren onto the cover of our October 2023 print magazine, following the arrival of her first solo single ‘Are You Awake?’. Since then, she’s treated us to empowering pop gems ‘Shame’ and ‘Change Shapes’, and has now also dropped her latest release ‘Something In The Air’ - a number inspired by a conspiracy theorist Britpop singer…

“[It’s] a song that really came out of nowhere,” Lauren has said of the new track. “I was in London finishing another song with my friend, co-writer and producer Dan McDougall. We were taking a break in the shared kitchen in the studio complex when a pretty iconic British musician, who I won’t throw under the bus here, came in and started making conversation about electricity, 5G and how it’s making us all sick. Dan and I went for a walk around the block before going back to the studio and were unpacking those theories, and why people want to believe them - and the chorus lyric just appeared.”
