Listen: Shunkan Streams ‘Dust In Your Eyes’ Track
Exciting new songwriter Marina Sakimoto has shared a second song from her debut cassette EP.

A couple of weeks back, a new songwriter going by the name of Shunkan arrived on the scene. Marina Sakimoto - a New Zealand-based newcomer - pens songs that could break down barriers and fall apart in one split-second. There’s a reckless combination between heady, shoegaze-indebted guitars and vocals that pierce the surface. On ‘Dust In Your Eyes’, she sings one of the standout lyrics of the year (‘I could kiss the dust from your eyes’), intimacy roaming wild within a sea of sinking guitar parts.
Like ‘Wash You Away’ - a title-track from her new EP - there’s barely any percussion, and no signs of a full-band mentality in sight. This is as personal an expression as they come, and it makes for something barely-balanced but brilliantly intriguing.
Pre-order the debut cassette EP ‘Wash You Away’, out on 28th April via Art Is Hard Records.
