Maggie Rogers airs new track ‘On + Off’

She debuted the song last night on MistaJam’s BBC Radio 1 show.

Last night Maggie Rogers was a special guest on MistaJam’s BBC Radio 1 show, where her latest track became his ‘Hottest Record In The World’.

‘On + Off’ combines the strong pop sensibilities she showed off on the likes of ‘Dog Years’ with a chopped, reverberating piano melody that harks back to some of her folk roots.

Talking to MistaJam, Maggie explained that the track was one of the first she’d written alongside ‘Alaska’. “There’s a sort of sexual cliché in the song, there’s a lyric that says ‘you turn me on’,” she said, “but if you listen to the rest of the lyrics, it’s actually about emotional stability and being on and off, and finding a person that grounds you. That’s one of the most important things to me in relationships. It’s a song you can dance to, a song you can get down to, but for me there’s a lot of heart and soul in it too.”
