Morrissey on Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran: “Things can’t possibly get worse”

Morrissey has added the UK’s biggest pop success stories to his hate list - easy targets Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith.

Referring to how modern music gets into the charts and becomes a big deal, Moz told Colorado’s Boulder Weekly that “everything is stringently controlled, obvious and predictable.”

Referring specifically to Sheeran and saucy warbler Smith, he said: “It’s very rare that a record label does something for the good of music. Thus we are force-fed such as Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith, which at least means that things can’t possibly get any worse. It is sad, though. There’s no spontaneity now, and it all seems to be unsalvageable.”

He also had some things to say about youth culture today. Dismissing their “very clichéd rock ‘n’ roll” look and their “careless attitude towards drugs,” he did however praise a rejection of fur and leather - “all very important no-go zones for the intelligent young people.”

“So, in amongst the grime, I see lots of good changes, and as soon as animals are off the menu, the world will be a great place,” he said.
