MUNA tease new music with steamy Insta post
“IT GETS SO HOT”, apparently.
By the looks of it, MUNA are back: the beloved trio have teased the release of new music with a series of (quite literally) steamy Instagram posts, each depicting a member of the band - Katie Gavin, Josette Maskin, and Naomi McPherson - sweating it out as they strip off. The three posts are all accompanied by the caption ‘IT GETS SO HOT’, and soundtracked by a snippet of dreamy synth-pop.
Eager fans have - obviously - started speculating that this signals the start of a new era for the group, whose last self-titled album arrived back in 2022. Since then, they’ve also shared a live record (‘Live at The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles’), while vocalist Katie Gavin dropped her debut solo LP ‘What A Relief’ in 2024.
Speaking in our September 2024 cover feature to put to bed any fears of the band breaking up, Katie explained: “The truth is [Josette and Naomi] are sweethearts and the conversation [about Katie’s solo album] happened over a long period of time. When you’re on the outside, it seemed to happen very quickly but that wasn’t the case for us. Also… they just didn’t want to work on these songs!
“I would compare it to any long-term relationship. Ideally you’re growing together, but it’s not realistic to think that every direction that you’re growing in, they’ll want to do that with you. Sometimes you have to go on a little journey on your own, but it’s for the health and benefit of that relationship.”
If their recent Insta activity is anything to go by, MUNA’s is a relationship that’s going from strength to strength. We don’t have any details about their next move yet, but watch this space… and in the meantime, you can revisit our Katie Gavin cover feature below.
