Girl Band - De Bom Bom

We’re witnessing one of the most exciting new bands experiencing one hell of a headrush.

Look: Girl Band have never been sweethearts. None of them have ever thrown a dinner party. They wouldn’t be allowed through the doors of Harrods because, let’s fact it, they’re going to smash something expensive, accidentally or otherwise. Even on public transport they’re a bit of a menace. They’re erratic individuals, incapable of sitting still or keeping their mouths shut - but that’s why they’re so brilliant. Back in the day (i.e.. last year), when they decided to cover a Blawan track, extend it to eight minutes, kick the living daylights out of the original, something snapped. Some inactive nerves in their system suddenly decided to work. Like any eureka moment, they decided to chase it. And so they got ruder, louder, quicker with their execution.

‘De Bom Bom’ arrives in the same year that these Dubliners delivered one of the singles of the year, ‘Lawman’. It sees them extracting some of the raw material from that breakthrough moment and compressing it into a more fizzing, forthright form of expression. Guitars still bark instead of pushing out melodies. A clattering clamour remains their game. But ‘De Bom Bom’ is less of a bom, more of a BOOM. It’s just another step on the way for Girl Band; they’ll continue making songs of this harsh industrial form; they’ll keep getting better. But it’s confirmation, if ever it was needed, that here we’re witnessing one of the most exciting new bands experiencing one hell of a headrush.

‘De Bom Bom’ is released 1st September via Any Other City Records.
