Charli XCX’s new album “could change the sound of pop music”
Last week Charli XCX posted a selfie-based update from the studio, saying that the follow-up to her last album ‘Sucker’ was nearly finished (a week way from completion, to be exact.) In a new interview with i-D about her new fashion campaign with House of Holland, she also spoke more about the new as-of-yet untitled record, and what to expect from it. Apparently, it “could change the sound of pop music”. It’s “the album I’ve been trying to make forever,” she added, suggesting that the album is indeed finished. “And now I’ve done it.” Asked about the direction of her newer material, Charli replied “there are some high-octane plastic moments and then more piano ballad situations. I’m into East 17 right now.” She has previously spoken in interviews about her deep admiration for Paris Hilton’s underrated pop banger ‘Stars are Blind,’ and her in studio work with PC Music. Charli XCX has also been working with SOPHIE, BloodPop, and Danish pop machine Stargate, as well as her “best friend and favourite collaborator Noonie Bao”.
