Alabama Shakes tease third album with loaded new track 'American Dream' • News • DIY Magazine

Alabama Shakes have continued their grand return with the release of ‘American Dream’, a poignant new single that heralds the forthcoming announcement proper of their third studio album.

Set to arrive at some point in 2026, the LP will be the first full-length from the trio - made up of Brittany Howard, Heath Fogg, and Zac Cockrell - since 2015’s GRAMMY-winning ‘Sound & Colour’, and will act as a follow up to last year’s comeback single ‘Another Life’.

The news comes in line with Alabama Shakes’ live return, too; back in December the band announced plans to play in the UK for the first time in a decade, and they’ve also got a whole host of 2026 North American dates locked in.

Of ‘American Dream’, a woozy yet powerful slice of psychedelic soul that nods to our contemporary dystopia, Howard has noted: “it’s a snapshot of what we’re living through in 2026. I look around and wonder how we got to a place where there’s so much strain and so little support.

“I mean, it shouldn’t be impossible to take off work so you can bring your child to the doctor - that’s actually insane. My hope is that one day people will hear this song and say: ‘yeah, shit was crazy back then, but we made it through.’”
