Mumford & Sons super-charge electric sound with SNL performance
Not convinced the banjos are gone? Take a look now.
Mumford & Sons have so far showcased two new songs from their electrified ‘Wilder Mind’ LP. Lead single ‘Believe’ is arguably the most Mumfords-sounding pointer, while ‘The Wolf’ is a more ravaged take on their new direction.
But it’s last night’s performance on Saturday Night Live that truly sets out the group’s big intentions. Three years ago they made their SNL debut on the back of multi-million selling LP2 ‘Babel’. They’ve returned with zero banjos and no sign of any waistcoats. Instead, there’s leather jackets, rugged beards and a lifetime’s supply of electric guitars. Ted Dwane’s also sporting a bass-face worthy of rivalling Este Haim - not that Mumfords were ever short of impassioned on-stage expressions.
Watch both ‘Believe’ and ‘The Wolf’ on SNL below. Mumford & Sons will headline Poland’s Open’er (1st-4th July) and Reading & Leeds (28th-30th August).
