Sufjan Stevens and Lowell Brams announce special collaborative album ‘Aporia’

Following their collaboration on 2008’s ‘Music For Insomnia’, Sufjan Stevens and stepfather/frequent collaborator/Asthmatic Kitty Records co-founder Lowell Brams (whose relationship with Sufjan’s late mother is explored on his stunning ‘Carrie and Lowell’ record) have been back in the studio cooking up a brand new collaborative effort for us.

Announcing new LP ‘Aporia’, which will land on 27th March, the pair have been working on it for several years, pulling out the best bits of the hours of music they’ve created to form the final product. “You know how it is with jamming: ninety percent of it is absolutely horrible, but if you’re just lucky enough, ten percent is magic,” Sufjan explains. “I just kept pulling out these little magical moments.”

Sharing the first piece of magic today, new track ‘The Unlimited’ is a mesmerising instrumental number, creating a haunting soundscape that sets the captivating tone for the rest of the experimental new LP.

Marking the first glimpse at their new project, the pair have also been joined across ‘Aporia’ by several frequent Asthmatic Kitty collaborators, including Thomas Bartlett (Doveman), D.M. Stith, Nick Berry (Dots Will Echo), John Ringhofer (Half- handed Cloud) drummer and longtime collaborator James McAlister, keyboardist and trombonist Steve Moore (Sunn O)))), guitarist Yuuki Matthews (The Shins) and vocalist Cat Martino.
