Sufjan Stevens, Pharrell Williams have credits on Kendrick Lamar’s ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’
Meanwhile, a Top Dawg rep claims Interscope messed up the album’s release.
Before the week had a chance to get going, Kendrick Lamar stole the show by releasing his ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’ album one week early.
Streaming now on Spotify and available on iTunes, the initial fallout’s seen the LP praised as a jazz-fused epic.
Further details have emerged as to guest involvement on the record. And get this - Sufjan Stevens is given a credit on ‘Hood Politics’, a disjointed number produced by Tae Beast, Sounwave and Thundercat. Sufjan’s ‘All for Myself’ is sampled on the track.
Elsewhere, Pharrell Williams appears on ‘Alright’, with George Clinton featuring on opening track ‘Wesley’s Theory’, Flying Lotus assisting on production.
CEO of Top Dawg Entertainment, Anthony Tiffith, appeared to claim that ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’ wasn’t meant to drop one week early. He “personally thanked” Interscope for “fucking up our release”. See the tweet below.
