Close encounters: Manchester Orchestra get supernatural in the video for ‘The Alien’

It’s the latest from their upcoming new album ‘A Black Mile To The Surface’.
A couple of weeks ago, Manchester Orchestra announced that they’d be releasing their new album ‘A Black Mile To The Surface’, and it’s out at the end of next month! Hurrah!
At the time they shared a brand new track, ‘The Gold’ and now they’re back with another newbie from the LP, ‘The Alien’. It’s also got a new accompanying video directed by Mike Dempsey, and as you might expect, there’s some pretty supernatural things going on. While it might focus on a small segment of the world, there’s time travel, floating and even a few vintage home videos.
The band’s Andy Hull said of the clip: “‘The Alien’ is a narrative about a small slice of time in a man’s life as he faces a lofty decision with a dire consequence. It is ultimately about family and the effects, big and small, that family has on everybody. We knew it was important for the video to have a narrative that added an otherworldly element without taking away from the original story. Mike Dempsey and The Daniels have created a beautiful and intense representation of life and the unexpected movements that occur for all of us”.
In October, Manchester Orchestra will be taking ‘A Black Mile To The Surface’ on the road in the UK. They’ll be headed to Manchester, Glasgow, Leeds, Birmingham, London, Brighton and Bristol on the way. Tickets are on sale now.
