Musical polymath yeule announces new album 'Evangelic Girl is a Gun'

Eighteen months on from the release of their third album, musical polymath yeule has returned with news of their latest project. The artist - also known as Nat Ćmiel - will release their fourth album ‘Evangelic Girl is a Gun’ on 30th May via Ninja Tune, and has called it a project in which they “grapple with ideas of a self-destructive identity burning through the canvas of post-modernity”.

The project, which is ten tracks in length and follows on from 2023’s ‘softscars’, sees Ćmiel collaborate with artist Vasso Vu for a series of “still visual artworks”, while Ćmiel themselves explores their role as the “painter”: “I wanted to bring homage to my life as a painter with this album,” Ćmiel explains, nodding to Polish artist Zdzisław Beksiński as their inspiration. “For me, Beksiński portrays so beautifully, with utmost care, the entities that crawl through his dystopian, tranquil landscapes. The nature of painting as a medium is a reflection of my emotions, both violent and gentle. A fleeting moment of time in my life, transcribed with paint and trapped in time.”

Their new album also features an all-star cast of producers and collaborators, including A.G. Cook, Chris Greatti, Mura Masa, Clams Casino, Fitnesss and Kin Leonn. Alongside new of their new album, yeule has also shared a preview in form of ‘Skullcrusher’ - which doubles as the album’s closing number - a sparsely dark track that soon transforms into a cacophony of noise.

Check out the video for ‘Skullcrusher’ - as directed by Neil Krug - below.
