When on a band’s MySpace page, we always make a point of inspecting their ‘top friends’. You can learn a lot about a band from their ‘top friends’. The Blizzards, apparently, count Oasis and The Fonz as some of their favourite people in the world. Sadly, this cannot be heard in their music. Luckily, their output is pretty stellar regardless.
Haling from Ireland, this handsome quintet are no strangers to success. Their debut album, ‘A Public Display of Affection’, went platinum and their live repertoire boasts support dates for Franz Ferdinand and Kasabian. Given this, the clean-cut, if somewhat ‘safe’, sound of ‘Buy It Sell It’ will come as no surprise. If the typical indie band usually dons worn-out skinnies and battered converse, this is indie-pop wearing Jack Wills and Ralph Lauren.
The most interesting aspect of this single is the tempo. Building perfectly throughout the first half of the song, it all comes to a crescendo at around the 3 minute mark for a rousing, no holds barred, ‘break it down now’ interval. The lyrics are slick and catchy, with expertly executed harmonies and an overall polished sound. Whilst we like our music a little rough around the edges, for those of you who enjoy yours mainstream and highly produced, this is the perfect tune for wasting away the hot (/rainy) summer days.
