In the magazine October 2018

With Robyn, MØ, John Grant, Fucked Up, Basement, alt-J & more.

When Robyn made her comeback this summer with the fantastic ‘Missing U’, it was as if the eight years since her last album - 2010’s lusty hammerblow ‘Body Talk’ - disappeared into thin air.

The singer’s new album comes out at the end of the month, and we’re delighted to welcome her to the cover of the October issue of DIY to talk all things ‘Honey’. It’s been a turbulent eight years, but as she tells us in the cover feature, one that’s ended up with her tapping into a new kind of inner peace, and returning with an album that sees her tackling life’s challenges with a softer, more caring hand.

“My instinct has been to push through [feelings] and face things head on, but this time it wasn’t an option for me,” she tells us in this month’s cover feature. “It felt like a dead end. I just couldn’t push this any further. It’s not gonna go anywhere. I can’t be writing sad love songs for the rest of my life - that’s just gonna be pathetic!”

Robyn is joined in the new issue by , who (finally) releases her second album ‘Forever Neverland’ and is relentlessly sticking to her singular vision. John Grant is also in the mag, embracing life’s ugly and difficult sides on new album ‘Love Is Magic’.

Elsewhere, we catch up with Fucked Up, who return to being their weirdest, most outlandish selves on new record ‘Dose Your Dreams’, and transatlantic punks Basement, whose comeback finally feels solidified on the brilliant ‘Beside Myself’.

Sundara Karma are also in the new mag, talking to us about the work currently being put in on their upcoming second album(!), while You Me At Six have found a new lease of life on their appropriately titled sixth album ‘VI’, and Anteros look forward to their DIY Presents UK tour and their debut album, which is set to land next March.

With Grimes getting our Hall of Fame treatment, Lady Bird taking our It’s Your Round challenge, reviews of new albums from the likes of Brockhampton, and live reports from Reeperbahn, End Of The Road and more, the new issue is absolutely rammed. We can’t wait for you to see it.
