In the magazine October 2024
With Soccer Mommy, Bastille, Pixies, Master Peace and more!
From first meeting Lava La Rue and joining NiNE8 Collective back when she was in college, to emerging as a latex-clad empowerment queen in the video for last year’s ‘Watch Me’, it’s safe to say that Biig Piig has been on a bit of ‘a journey’ over recent years. Now, she’s set to make her biggest move yet and, as she gets ready to announce her debut album very soon, we’re thrilled to have her grace the October cover, where she gives us an exclusive taste of what to expect.
“I haven’t always been assured and confident – it’s something that’s come with age and experience and being more daring in my art,” she shares in our cover feature. “But as women, we’re still fighting to be in certain spaces, and we’re not going to be undermined for being in our truth. I like to take the power back in a really strong way, because I’m not gonna let the fear a man has put into me stop me from living my life.”
And that’s not all! Elsewhere in our October 2024 issue, we dive down a surreal rabbit hole with Pixies’ Black Francis; dig into Orla Gartland’s high-flying new era; and delve into the far-reaching world that Bastille’s Dan Smith is building with his new project, ‘& (Ampersand)’. We also learn about the intricacies of grief and acceptance with Soccer Mommy; meet the young band flying the flag for punk’s next generation, The Linda Lindas; and assess the industry’s enduring prejudices with Master Peace.
Over in our new music-centric Neu section, Sex Education star and solo artist Dua Saleh tells us about their environmentally-minded debut, while surrealist art-pop duo Faux Real and Aussie indie-rocker total tommy give us the lowdown on their latest projects. Plus, we’ve also got the details on Manchester poet Antony Szmierek’s just-announced first full-length, and share a snippet of our recent In Deep digital cover interview with the mighty Michael Kiwanuka.
We’re now well and truly in the thick of peak release season, and our reviews pages are packed with the DIY lowdown on the latest records from Laura Marling, FINNEAS, the late, great SOPHIE, and many more. If you’re looking for gig highlights, meanwhile, look no further than our live reviews of Jack White, Hamburg’s Reeperbahn Festival, and the unstoppable Chappell Roan.
