Broadcasting details announced for the 2024 Mercury Prize Albums Of The Year

BBC Music have confirmed that 2024’s Mercury Prize ‘Album Of The Year’ will be revealed on Thursday 5th September, and have also shared details of this year’s broadcasting plans.

In the past, the winner of the Mercury Prize has been announced at an award ceremony attended by shortlisted artists, music industry professionals, and members of the public, which was filmed and broadcast live on the BBC.

This year, the artists behind the 12 shortlisted albums have instead been invited to London’s Abbey Road Studios, where they will watch recorded performances of each other’s work. This awards show will be filmed and broadcast live on BBC Four from 8-9:15pm, with the overall winner being announced at approximately 9pm.

BBC Radio 6 Music will also be broadcasting a ‘Mercury Prize 2024 Live’ show from 7-11pm (presented by Tom Ravenscroft and Deb Grant), featuring interviews with all the shortlisted artists conducted by Matt Everitt. Plus, a Mercury Prize 2024 collection will be available to dive into on BBC Sounds from Monday 2nd September, containing three 60 minute guides to this year’s 12 albums along with two curated playlists, archive interviews, deep cuts and more.

This year’s shortlisted albums were decided by a panel of judges that includes of 6 Music & Radio 2 Head Jeff Smith, DJ Jamz Supernova, journalist and broadcaster Sophie Williams, and The Times’ music critic Will Hodgkinson. Check out the full shortlist below.
