In the magazine March 2020

Featuring Rina Sawayama, Biffy Clyro, Fontaines DC, Sorry, Lauv and loads more.

As soon as Rina Sawayama released the first taste of her debut album - the turbo-charged, nu metal laced ‘STFU!’ - we knew that something very interesting was afoot. Having established herself as one of pop’s most fierce new hopes across her early singles and 2017 EP ‘RINA’, it’s on debut album ‘SAWAYAMA’ that she truly comes into her own - proving herself the new face of smart, emotionally-astute, politically-personal pop and a voice for a new generation. That’s why she’s our March cover star.

As well as meeting Rina in New York, this month we rendezvous with North London’s most enigmatic but brilliant relative newcomers, Sorry, to discuss debut ‘925’. We also introduce Lauv to our puppy pal Sparkles, and delve into what it’s like to finally be stepping out from behind the curtain of collaborating and into the limelight.

We also hang out in Baxter Dury’s West London home - and see him frolicking with a rubber duck, fyi - and meet with the always-vibrant HMLTD, to talk their opus of a debut album ‘West Of Eden’.

Elsewhere this issue, we sit down with Biffy Clyro to discuss their huge next record - Album 8! - while catching up with Fontaines DC to see how work on their follow-up to ‘Dogrel’ is going. We also get first word from both Jehnny Beth, on her forthcoming solo album, and Gorillaz, on their new Song Machine project.

Plus, there are chats with Waxhatachee, The Orielles, Shopping and Self Esteem, as well as Neu features with Porridge Radio, PVA and Cavetown, and previews of upcoming festivals New Colossus and SXSW. Phew!
